Purpose.
“When you are deciding on next steps, next jobs, next careers, further education, you should rather find purpose than a job or a career. Purpose crosses disciplines. Purpose is an essential element of you. It is the reason you are on the planet at this particular time in history.”
— Chadwick Boseman
AIDS Ride Houston
An ambitious 4-day bike ride for which I was ill prepared. A great community experience. To raise money, I wrote and performed a one-man cabaret-style show at a local jazz club. Standing room only!
No Kid Hungry
Lead a group effort to organize and host a large, multi-family garage sale. We raised a fair amount of cash for this national charity focusing on food deficits and children.
Sight Into Sound
Formerly Taping for the Blind this is a unique organization. A solitary endeavor that I really enjoyed. Making the leap from reel-to-reel to digital was awesome.
Heights Interfaith Food Pantry
During Covid this small neighborhood pantry went to “drive-through” only. So, we moved to packaging items in advance to place in vehicles. I eventually became the “veggie guy”, prepping the veg bags on a weekly basis.
Stone Soup Pantry
As a favor for a friend, I’d go and do his shopping for him. Then I started escorting clients through the facility. Eventually I took on delivery to a local housing facility for 3-4 clients.
The Center for Pursuit
Having learned my cycling limitations, I volunteered as a SAG-driver for this annual SpringFest cycling fundraiser. The Center provides housing and support for mentally challenged individuals.
